What makes your product or designs "meaningful”?

At R+D.LAB we design and make products that are driven from our core Principles;

A product that is Pure made from natural resources, Thoughtful reverence for heritage and process, Functional informed by new sensibility, with Purpose driven by desire for experience.

A design that is Clear uncomplicated and clean, Natural human and honest, Progressive historic craft revisited with modernity; Meaningful smart gesture.

What kinds of design details set R+D Lab pieces apart from other glassware?

Our glassware collection was born from a desire to make a well made product from a high quality of material that lasts, is produced sustainably, with a simple design of beautiful lines and an ease of use for everyday living.

What is the significance of mouth-blown glassware?

Mouth blown glass is made by craftsmen whom spend a lifetime in perfecting their techniques. A technique that is developed thru their intimacy with the material. Blown glass is generally thinner and more graceful and a common feature is its slight imperfection, as it won’t have the precision and uniformity of a machine made glass.

Can you tell us where your glass is blown, and what the production is like?

The glassware collection is created in Vento Italy, which is a region famous for producing high quality glassware and craft work by a 3rd generation family owned workshop. The production is completely manual and it takes two days to produce each piece of glassware from start to finish.

How do you select artisans and come to work with them?

We do a lot of research to find like-minded artisans that are rooted in their craft and possess an open perspective to experiment with new ideas and approaches.

What materials do you use and where do you source them?

We use the borosilicate glass of the highest quality made by a German Company, which was also the first to develop and sell it since 1893. We decided to use this material because of its high quality of glassware properties, supper efficient, reliable, resistance to heat and temperature changes, with a smooth surface and its high resistance to scratches. The borosilicate glass is used for high quality beverage glassware, as they are thin, durable, microwave and dishwasher safe.
