At the time LM caught up with NYC writer, Molly Young, she was 29. Her witty, eloquent & light-hearted charm was in abundance then and has only developed with the years. Molly’s name regularly graces the by-lines in publications such as the New York Times Magazine, GQ and Elle, but it is the upcoming release of her first book, D C-T, with illustrations by Joana Avillez, that prompted LM to revisit our 2015 exchange with Molly Young…

 

When and where were you happiest?

Anytime I’m brining myself in a large body of salt water.

 

What piece of work are you most proud of?

Creating these little mood-elevators.

Stop having anxiety dreams about eBay auctions.

“I get knocked down. But I get up again.”

When my mother asks if I’m eating enough protein.

 

What has been your favourite journey/holiday?

Riding a camel through the Wadi Rum valley in Jordan.

 

What are your top three films of all time?

The Third Man, for its depiction of picturesque dread

Tequila with lots of lime.

#4 bagel with whitefish and cucumbers at Black Seed.

Or, ½ pound of lox from Nordic Preserves, Fish & Wildlife at Essex Street Market.

 

Best thing about living in NYC?

The abundance of weirdos.

 

And the worst thing about living in NYC?

The abundance of rats.

 

Finally, the best piece of advise shared to you by a fellow female?

Brown the butter in a pan first, then pour it over the popcorn.
