LM Woman / Daniella Rech

Daniella Rech is a Sydney based photographer and mother of two. Starting her career as a model, Daniella is now on the other side of the lens creating images that are both raw and beautiful. She has a strong history with Lee Mathews, having photographed Lee’s campaigns and lookbooks up until the birth of her youngest, Storm.

What is your occupation?

Photographer.

What are you currently working on?

I have just started working on my first exhibition that will show next year sometime. I also started a baby label with my sister Crystal called SUMMER + STORM. We will be launching organic baby clothes very soon.

How did you end up doing what you’re doing?

I modelled all my teenage years and had no idea what I wanted to do once I finished with that. I became a mother when I was very young, so was consumed in that for the first couple of years. My partner Kannon would tell me how great my photos were of our son, so he bought me my first camera. I just kept shooting my friends and taught myself about light by playing around.

How do you approach personal style?

For someone who is in the fashion industry you would never know! I’m all for comfort. I wish I was cooler but I’m a hippy at heart and I really don’t care that much. The main thing for me is soft fabrics, my wardrobe consists of soft cotton and silk for summer and cashmere for winter.

Do you have a uniform?

Yes! T-shirts and jeans. I add cashmere sweaters for winter.

What would you do, see or learn if you had more time?

Oh my. Having two kids I fantasise about this ALL the time. Sounds crazy but I would work more. I love what I do. Also I would sing and play guitar more. I’m always happier with music in my life.

What would you tell your 18 year-old self?

Believe the impossible and work hard.

Who or what has been the most important influence on you in life?

My kids have taught me discipline. I’m realising as I get older, that you need to put 100% into everything you do, not just the stuff you like. That is when success will follow. Also, Kannon sure has pushed me out of my comfort zones. He has made me a stronger woman and I am thankful for this.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

I just got home from two weeks travelling with two kids, so I’m happy at home right now! But I would like to move my house to a beach for a while.

What has been your most memorable meal?

I have no idea.

Favourite film?

Good Will Hunting.

Travel destination?

Phuket, Thailand.
